It was great. The wind was almost non-existent until late in the afternoon, but from 4 pm on, it was very nice. It was great hanging out with everyone waiting on the wind. Fun day. I even practiced righting the boat when the wind was light.
Yesterday was great. As Ernest mentioned, there was almost no wind until 4:00PM. We took advantage of the windless time catching up with freinds we have not seen since last year, swapping sailing stories, tuning boats and watching Ernest put on his righting clinic with no wind to help right the boat :) When Mother Nature decided we had been patient enough, she did her magic and gave us a really nice evening wind to reach up and down the dike with and a nice sunset to call it a day. Franklin Viloa was there with his camera, and as usual, got some really excellent shots only a pro can get. He should be posting them on the site soon. Hope to see more cats out there next weekend.
jya sad to say me too...got the deck seam split repaired without much problem, but the transom repair became a nightmare. I had to cut a five inch hole in each hull to get acess to the rudder support plates (oh how I hated to cut a giant hole in the hulls of my boat) but it was nessesary for the solidification of the transoms.
Just kidding Floyd! And thanks again for your offer of help. You might have winced too, seeing a dremel bit go through the deck and cut out a big chunk of solid 'glass. I tried to look at it like surgery; invasive and damaging yes, but without it the patient wasn't going to survive. So that brings me to the nightmare part of it: the "curved" inspection covers sold by Murrays are nowhere near the curve of a Prindle deck. After a lot of learnig and four coats of West Marine goop, the ports fit. But it looks like CRAP. I have a few hours of sanding ahead...
I would use epoxy & mat to build up around those holes especially since you like sailing in rough seas. Its probably not a surprise but I had to cut a 6" or 8" hole on my first 5.5 to reinforce the decks so I know that feeling. Thanks again for making that sleeve for my mast step post its holding up nice!
