Heard that the dike was evacuated today because of a tanker collision and resulting oil spill in Galveston Bay. It could be a while before access to the dike is resumed as emergency crews are using the dike for staging and loading various equipment.

Ok guys this is not an Exxon Valdez type of spill or Deep water Horizon type spill. The media is hyping the crap out of it. We have the best response and clean up crews in the world based out of this area. I am optimistic they will get this cleaned up with minimal impact and down time. The dike will be fine and we will be sailing our ass off. Have faith!!!

spill
With billions of dollars lost each day the ship channel is closed they will have this cleaned up quick.  I suspect 2-3 weeks and the dike will be back open.  Don't hit the panic button just yet.

Yep.
As Steve and Morris have said I bet it will be open within the next week or two. With the north winds we are going to have the next few days it will give the bay system a nice flush.

baby oil
It will be just like 'old times' for those of us who surfed Galveston & Surfside in the 70's. A bottle of kerosene and another of baby oil .. the feet will be clean and shiny for the ride home!
